An 86-year-old man was hospitalized Monday night after he was stabbed in the abdomen while in his back yard in the 3000 block of National Avenue, police said.
Aurelio Casillas, 86, thought he heard a prowler about 10:30 p.m. and went out investigate. When Casillas confronted a man, he stabbed Casillas several times and fled, police said.
Casillas was flown by Life Flight to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he underwent surgery Monday. He was in serious condition Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
