4-A : Carter Scores 24 to Lead J.W. North to 83-57 Victory Over La Habra

Maurice Carter scored 24 points to lead J.W. North to an 83-57 victory over La Habra Wednesday in a first-round Southern Section 4-A playoff game at North.

North (19-7) led, 19-15, at the end of the first quarter but the Huskies’ pressure defense forced La Habra into numerous mistakes in the second quarter.

The Highlanders (13-12) made seven turnovers in the second quarter, as the Huskies outscored them, 19-8, to take a 38-23 lead at halftime.

North put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring La Habra, 22-11.

The Huskies outrebounded the Highlanders, 42-31, and were especially effective on the offensive boards.

Aaron Butler scored 17 points and Charlie Simmons 14 for North.

Tim Moore scored 13 points and David Stevens 11 for La Habra.
