Readers Announce Their Wide Range of Opinions on Jim Hill

Ever since it was announced that Jim Hill was switching from Channel 2 to Channel 7 for 750,000 of those pretty little green ones per year, it has been open season on Jim Hill in the media.

Hill’s outstanding work speaks for itself. Larry Stewart may not think that featuring the All-City 4-A football champions from Carson High School is provocative television. Coach Gene Vollnogle, the players, their parents, Principal Don Groth, the faculty and the student body, I am sure, will disagree.

In addition to spotlighting three of Coach Vollnogle’s players on his Sunday night show, Hill graciously agreed to emcee a luncheon that Supervisor Kenneth Hahn hosted for these young champions and role models.

I know from personal experience that Hill is always there when he’s called upon for events in the community.

(And) no one has campaigned as long or as hard as Hill has for the eradication of drugs from the field of sports.

Stewart wrote, “As for Hill’s slide, you look for answers and wonder if success as a broadcaster came too quickly.”

For young phenoms who burst on the scene in track and field and advance quickly, the world applauds. Shouldn’t this be the way all races are judged?
