Four Artists at the Champaign-Urbana campus of the University of Illinois, are calling for a “meltdown” of two bronze sculptures by French artist Emmanuel Fremiet. The sculptures, at the campus’ Krannert Art Museum, depict people in combat with animals. The group, which includes art professor Barbara DeGenevieve, says the pieces are sexist, racist and imperialist, according to USA Today. They suggest that once melted, “the raw material . . . be donated to artists concerned with humanist representation.”
