IN BRIEF : Snow Postpones Winston Cup Race
A winter storm that left Richmond International Raceway blanketed in a sheet of ice and snow drifts up to two feet deep forced track officials this morning to postpone the running of Sunday’s Pontiac 400 Winston Cup race.
“We’re disappointed because we’ve got people coming from 35 states,” said raceway President Paul Sawyer. He said the 400-lap Winston Cup race will be run on Easter Sunday, March 26. Qualifying for the entire 34-car field will be held March 25.
The Pontiac 200, a Busch Grand National race that was to have been run Saturday, has been postponed indefinitely, Sawyer said. NASCAR officials hope to announce a new date for that race in the coming weeks, he said.
