6.4 Quake in S. Pacific

MENLO PARK, Calif. —
A magnitude 6.4 earthquake occurred Saturday near the Kermadec Islands, an uninhabited volcanic group in the South Pacific, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The USGS seismology station said the temblor was recorded at 3:26 a.m. The epicenter was 850 miles north of Wellington, News Zealand.
