The two men went outside and into a nearby parking lot, where they began fighting. Loftus had taken a chair from the saloon and threw it at Shields. Police said Shields then allegedly shot Loftus and tried to flee but was caught by patrons of the bar.

Shields, who lives in the 3900 block of Hamilton Street, was arrested by police and is being held at County Jail on suspicion of murder, police said.
