A 30-year-old sailor, on leave because his wife had delivered a baby girl Tuesday, was killed Wednesday afternoon when the car he was driving was hit by another automobile in the 8000 block of Paradise Valley Road in Southeast San Diego, authorities said.

First Class Petty Officer Daniel Serrano Palisoc had just driven his wife home to Spring Valley from Paradise Valley Hospital. He was heading east on Paradise Valley Road about 3:25 p.m. when a speeding car heading west veered into his lane and sideswiped his car, the San Diego County coroner’s office said.

“Palisoc was extricated from the car and transported to Paradise Valley Hospital, where he died of internal injuries at 4:29 p.m.,” Deputy Coroner Dan Matticks said.

The driver of the other car, Javier Gonzalez-De Anda, 20, was in County Jail on Wednesday night, held on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony drunken driving.

One of the two passengers in Gonzalez-De Anda’s car was taken to Mercy Hospital with head injuries. He was in very critical condition Wednesday night, police said.

The other passenger was in serious condition at UC San Diego Medical Center with a punctured lung and facial cuts. The injured men’s names were not available.

Matticks said Palisoc was stationed on the destroyer tender Cape Cod. He and his wife were the parents of an older child, “around 3 or 4 years of age,” he added.
