The State : Folger Heiress Kidnap Target

Share

A man tried to kidnap Abiah Folger, an heiress to the Folger Coffee Co. fortune, as the 12-year-old stepped from a school bus near her San Francisco home, authorities said. San Francisco police officer Greg Ovanessian said as the girl began to cross the street she noticed a black-haired, pot-bellied man she described as “scary.” Seconds later the man rushed forward and tried to grab her. The kidnaper was frightened away when the child began screaming, Ovanessian said. He and the girl’s parents, Barbara and Peter M. Folger, said the attack seemed to be a random kidnaping. They said there was no indication the man knew of Abiah Folger’s connection to the coffee fortune. In 1969 another member of the Folger family, Abigail, was killed by members of the Charles Manson “Family” who also murdered actress Sharon Tate and three others in the actress’ secluded Benedict Canyon home.
