Local News in Brief : 3 Held in Shooting of Liquor Store Clerk

Three suspects in the shooting of a clerk during a Burbank liquor store robbery were arrested when their getaway car crashed while they were being chased by police, authorities said.

The robbery occurred at La Paz Liquor in the 4100 block of West Magnolia Boulevard at 10:45 p.m. Monday, police said. An unidentified clerk was shot in the stomach during the robbery and was in critical condition at St. Joseph Medical Center.

After the robbery, the suspects were spotted speeding from the scene and patrol officers chased them onto the northbound Golden State Freeway.

Police said that the suspects fired shots at the officers but that no one was struck. When the suspects attempted to leave the freeway at Buena Vista Street, their car turned over on the off-ramp. The suspects were only slightly injured and attempted to escape, but were captured by police near the off-ramp.

The three Los Angeles men were identified as Otis Johnson, 29; Franklin Ragsdale, 23, and Tommy A. Marshall, 23. Police said all were being held without bail on suspicion of attempted murder.
