Sixty seconds hath a minute, 60 minutes hath an hour . . . and the days keep ticking by without a replacement for Diane Sawyer on “60 Minutes.” Thursday’s rumor du jour at CBS News involved a possible double play: “West 57th” correspondent Steve Kroft would shift to “60 Minutes.” CBS News is still trying to lure back Connie Chung after her NBC contract expires in May, but one knowledgeable source downplays speculation that she too will join the “60 Minutes” staff. Sawyer left the program more than a month ago, headed for ABC and a teaming with Sam Donaldson on a new prime-time news series.
