Share

A suspect in the robbery and sexual assault of an elderly Santa Ana woman was arrested Thursday, police said.

Essam Mousa Nesheiwat, 27, of Santa Ana was taken into custody about 9:30 a.m. at the home of his parents, who were being evicted from their home in the 4900 block of Kenny Circle in Santa Ana.

Santa Ana police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said a real estate agent conducting the eviction “read in a newspaper that (Nesheiwat) was wanted” and connected the last name with that of his parents.

The agent showed an article about Nesheiwat to two county marshals assisting her with the eviction, Thomas said, and the suspect was arrested without incident.

An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for Nesheiwat, charging him with breaking into the unidentified woman’s trailer in the early morning hours of Feb. 12, then sexually assaulting and robbing her, Thomas said. Police believe that the woman may have known Nesheiwat as an area delivery man, she said.

Nesheiwat was being held in County Jail Thursday night with bail set at $100,000.
