South Alabama 86, Alabama 84--Jeff Hodge made a 24-foot jumper with four seconds left, capping a second-half comeback that gave the Jaguars an upset victory over the Crimson Tide.

The Jaguars, who trailed by 19 points in the first half, led only once in the game before Hodge’s winning shot. Gabriel Estaba’s three-point play with 1:37 left gave South Alabama an 83-81 lead.

It was the 11th victory in a row for South Alabama (23-8), which faces Michigan Sunday.

Hodge finished with 29 points, and Estaba, a Venezuelan, scored 26 points.

Alabama, which got 25 points from Michael Ansley, ended its season with a 23-8 record.

North Carolina 93, Southern 79--Kevin Madden and J. R. Reid scored eight points each in a 33-11 first-half burst that erased a 10-point deficit and helped carry the fifth-ranked Tar Heels to victory over Southern University.

It was the fourth win in a row for the Tar Heels (28-7). Southern, the Southwestern Athletic Conference champion, had a six-game winning streak end and finished the season 20-11.

Madden, scoring mostly inside, led the Tar Heels with 22 points, and Reid finished with 12. Carlos Sample led Southern with 22.

The Tar Heels lost Jeff Lebo with 8:45 remaining when he caught an elbow to the nose from Sample. It was unknown if he would be able to play against UCLA Sunday.
