Golf Roundup : Garbacz Shoots 67 for Two-Stroke Tucson Lead

Lori Garbacz came from two strokes back to tie Martha Nause on the 15th hole, then birdied Nos. 16 and 18 for a two-stroke lead in the third round of the $300,000 Tucson Open women’s golf tournament.
Garbacz, seeking her first victory in 12 years, shot a five-under-par 67 for a 54-hole total of 204.
Nause shot a 71 for a 206 total on the 6,243-yard Randolph North Golf Course.
Jan Stephenson, 1983 Tucson champion and 1987 runner-up, started the day tied with Garbacz and shot a 71 for a total of 208.
Defending champion Laura Davies, Missie Berteotti and Jody Rosenthal were tied at 209.
Davies shot a 70 with four birdies, an eagle, two bogeys and a double bogey.
Harold Henning of South Africa surged from last place with a six-under-par 66 to tie New Zealand’s Bob Charles for the lead at 141 after two rounds of a $250,000 seniors tournament at Johannesburg, South Africa.
Charles shot a 71.
Next at 142 in the eight-man event was South Africa’s Gary Player, who shot a 72, followed by Dave Hill, who was at 143 after a second-round 69.
Orville Moody, who slipped to a 74 after sharing the first-round lead with Charles and Player at 70, was at 144. Lee Elder and Bobby Nichols were tied at 145.
Australia’s Bruce Devlin was last at 146.
