Track Roundup : UCLA Wins Triangular Meet

Mike Marsh won the 400 meters in 46.75 seconds and anchored the UCLA 400- and 1,600-meter relay teams Saturday to lead the Bruin men’s track and field team to a trianglular-meet victory over Iowa and Kansas State at Drake Stadium.

UCLA had 111 points, followed by Iowa with 38 and Kansas State with 27.

In a non-scoring meet at Cromwell Field, USC hurdlers Robert Reading and George Porter, and triple jumper Greg Harper passed the standards to qualify for the the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. championships later in the season.

Reading ran the 110-meter hurdles in 13.76 seconds, Porter ran the 400-meter hurdles in 50.14 and Harper jumped 53 feet.

Tonya Sedwick won the long jump at 20-11 1/2 and the 400 meters in 53.78, and anchored the winning 400-meter relay team as the UCLA women beat Kansas State in a dual meet, 63-46, at Drake Stadium.

USC’s women won two dual meets, defeating San Diego State, 79-46, and Cal State Los Angeles, 78-46.

USC was led by Michelle Taylor, who won the 800 meters in 2:08.09 and anchored both winning relay teams.

Effie Daetz was a double winner for USC, taking the 100-meter hurdles in 14.13 and the 400 meters in 59.35.
