The Preps : Softball Roundup : Lauby Keys El Toro’s 7-3 Victory
Paige Lauby struck out eight and had two hits and an RBI to lead El Toro High School to a 7-3 nine-inning victory over Mission Viejo Monday in a championship quarterfinal game of the Woodbridge softball tournament at Woodbridge.
Lauby (6-2), who also scored two runs, had an RBI single to tie the score, 2-2, in the seventh inning.
Each team scored a run in the eighth, before El Toro (10-3) scored four runs in the ninth. T.J. Stoewsand had an RBI double for El Toro.
In other Woodbridge tournament quarterfinal games:
Huntington Beach 3, Woodbridge 0--Pam Fogg (4-1) pitched a one-hitter for Huntington Beach.
Gahr 2, La Quinta 1 (10 innings)--Dee Dee Weiman struck out 25 and gave up just three hits in 10 innings for Gahr.
In the consolation quarterfinals:
Capistrano Valley 2, Tustin 0--Jennifer Smith (6-3) pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine to lead Capistrano Valley.
Laguna Hills 7, Trabuco Hills 4--Margo Melendrez (4-2) gave up four hits and struck out nine for the victory.
