Prep Softball Roundup : La Mirada’s Mullins Stops El Toro on One Hit
Dena Mullins pitched a one-hitter as La Mirada High School advanced to the final of the Woodbridge softball tournament with a 1-0 victory over El Toro Tuesday at Heritage Park in Irvine.
La Mirada will play Gahr in the championship game today at 1 p.m.
Mullins (8-0) struck out 16. She allowed a fifth-inning single.
La Mirada took the lead in the third. Shannon Musick led off with a single. After stealing second, Musick scored on a single by Jenny Hambly.
Jenny Jorden pitched a three-hitter but took the loss. Jorden (4-2) struck out three.
In the other semifinal game:
Gahr 3, Huntington Beach 1--De De Weiman pitched a one-hitter to lead Gahr at Heritage Park. Weiman struck out 14 and allowed only an unearned run in the third inning.
