Testifying at the federal trial of agents Norby Walters and Lloyd Bloom, Michigan football Coach Bo Schembechler called football players Garland Rivers and Robert Perryman “a disgrace” for signing with sports agents while they still had college eligibility.

Schembechler said he would have expelled Rivers and Perryman from the team had he known they signed contracts and taken money from the defendants, which is a violation of National Collegiate Athletic Assn. rules.

Earlier in the trial, Perryman and Rivers testified that they had taken loans and signed pro representation contracts with the agents before their senior seasons in 1986.

Former Temple running back Paul Palmer, also testifying in Chicago, said Bloom secretly diverted tens of thousands of dollars of Palmer’s pro football salary to pay for cars, clothing, credit card bills and other personal items.
