IN BRIEF : No Decision on Pete Rose Today
A spokesman for Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth said there will be no announcement today on the results of an inquiry into allegations of gambling by Reds Manager Pete Rose.
Jim Small, spokesman in the commissioner’s office, told the Associated Press today that the investigation is not completed. “There will be no announcement today. Reports to the contrary, we will have nothing to say today. The investigation is still continuing.”
Rose has refused to discuss allegations that have linked him with gambling and that could jeopardize his future in baseball. One of the allegations reported under investigation is that Rose may have bet on baseball, possibly his own team. (Story, Part III, Page 1.)
If proven true, Rose would be suspended or even banned for life.
