Ex-Pittsburgh Steelers lineman Steve Courson, an admitted user and now an outspoken critic of steroids in the National Football League, has been told by doctors that he needs a heart transplant.

Courson, 33, who retired in 1985, has heart disease and said that while it is not known what caused the condition, he suspects it’s possible it could be linked to his longtime, heavy use of steroids, which helped make him bigger and stronger to play football.
