Whose Special Interest?

NBC’s comment that it will “resist any narrow, single, special-interest group (trying) to dictate the content of television” demonstrates its lack of concern for the viewing public (“NBC to Resist Pressure in ‘SNL’ Flap,” March 18).

I am not representing nor am I involved in any “special-interest” group other than the people who resent the trend of network humor that denigrates/satirizes both men and women, marriage, drug-free and alcohol-free living or a commitment to God.

I have written letters to the sponsors of indecent programming, “Saturday Night Live” included, requesting that they consider if they really want to finance programming that pollutes our society’s mind.

I find it hard to believe that NBC’s Alan Gerson will keep his commitment to “not do (‘Saturday Night Live’-style) programming on Saturday morning or at 8 p.m. on Saturday night.” Years ago, he would have not attempted it even at midnight.
