A41-year-old transient was found dead by the side of the railroad tracks in Northridge, police said Sunday.

A train crew found the body of Bruce Emmitt Bowdoin about 3 p.m. Saturday near the tracks at Louise Avenue in Northridge, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Mike Krecioch said. He said police think Bowdoin had been lying on the tracks when he was hit by a train, probably Friday night, and was dragged about 100 yards.

A half-empty quart bottle of beer in a paper bag was found near the body, Krecioch said.

Bowdoin had last been seen Thursday morning, peering into a window of the Congregational Church of Northridge in the 9600 block of Balboa Boulevard, police said.
