More Emery Bids Ordered: Emery Air Freight Corp. said the Justice Department ordered it to look for an alternative to a $230-million offer from Consolidated Freightways Inc. of Menlo Park, Calif. The announcement surprised securities analysts, who said the reason may be antitrust in nature because of some overlapping operations of the two freight companies. Emery would not disclose the reason for the government directive. A Consolidated spokesman said the company remained interested in pursuing its bid but that no decision had been made to extend its tender offer, which expires at midnight tonight.
