Community College Roundup : Jacobs Pitches 2-Hitter in Fullerton Victory

Kristin Jacobs pitched a two-hitter as Fullerton College defeated Rancho Santiago, 4-0, Friday in an Orange Empire Conference softball game at Fullerton.

Jacobs (18-7) had a perfect game until Yvonne Rodriguez beat out an infield hit to lead off the sixth. Loloy Figueroa had a leadoff double in the seventh for Rancho Santiago’s only other hit.

Jacobs struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

Fullerton (20-10 overall, 6-1 in conference play) took the lead in the fourth. Kelly Hilliard led off with a triple and scored on a single by Kelli Johnson. Stephanie Fleischaker then doubled to score Johnson for a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, Dena Oborn singled with one out. Hilliard then tripled, scoring pinch-runner Diana Olea. Johnson followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in Hilliard for a 4-0 lead.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Riverside 1, Cypress 0--Riverside (13-12, 2-5) got its four hits in the top of the seventh for the victory. Laurie Alvarez capped the inning with an infield single that scored Fran Watson. Dottie Whiteley (6-5) allowed seven hits for the victory. Colleen Moore (15-6) struck out seven and had a no-hitter through six innings, but took the loss for Cypress (22-9, 2-5).

Orange Coast 3, Golden West 2--Orange Coast (13-12, 4-4) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the victory. Brenda Velasquez squeezed home one run to tie the score, 2-2, and Valerie Azhocar followed with a run-scoring single for a 3-2 lead.
