Singer Helen Reddy, whose avalanche of success included three platinum albums, nine gold albums, four gold singles and a Grammy for “I Am Woman,” was asked by Reuters what lessons she’s learned during her four decades in show business. She recalled two things taught her by her father, a comic and actor, and her mother, a singer and stage manager: “One is if you want to find out the value of a dollar, try to borrow one, and the other is if you want to know who your friends are, get sick.”
