In another nonleague softball game:

Vista 3, Mira Mesa 0--The Panthers improved to 7-1, as did pitcher Kelly Schott, who had seven strikeouts and allowed one hit. Vista’s Rene Richardson went two for three, and teammates Michelle Webster, Danielle Jaime and Alicia Gerken went two for four.

Nonleague

Valhalla 16, Mt. Miguel 7--Tony Clark hit two home runs, including a three-run homer in the third inning and a grand slam in the sixth, to spark the Norsemen past host Mt. Miguel (2-12-2). Clark was three for five with six RBIs and also had a double. Valhalla’s Stacey Hamm scored three runs and recorded the team’s first grand slam in the fifth. John Lynn went three for four with two RBIs and scored three runs for Valhalla (8-6-1). Sophomore Tom Giglio won to improve to 4-0.

Santana 11, Granite Hills 3--The Sultans scored six runs off three home runs in the first inning. Granite Hills dropped to 10-4, 1-0.

El Capitan 10, Grossmont 8--Jeromy McGarity and Robert Guerrero each hit a home run in the fifth for El Capitan. Grossmont’s Greg Layson scored three runs and went four for four.

City Western League

Kearny 14, La Jolla 13--Rob Fragoso, who had three hits and four RBIs, knocked in the winning run in the eighth when he hit a chopper down the first-base line that was grabbed by La Jolla’s Bob Grasso. Despite the diving stop, Grasso couldn’t get up quick enough to make the play at the plate on Kelly Cain.

The Komets tied it in the seventh when freshman Matt Whitcomb capped a four-run rally with a two-out, two-run double.

USDHS 17, University City 7--Gavin Millay and Chad Davidson each had three hits for the Dons; Millay drove in four runs and Davidson one. The Dons also got two hits and two RBIs from both Steve Walker and Jeff DesJardins.

USDHS is 10-3, 2-1, University City 3-10, 1-2.

Mission Bay 19, Clairemont 4--Tony Lennan improved his perfect record (6-0) and was five for six and drove in five runs for Mission Bay (12-3, 3-0). Host Clairemont dropped to 6-7, 2-1.

City Eastern League

Serra 6, Point Loma 5--Serra scored three runs in the seventh, and pitcher Raul Castillo went three for four and picked up the victory for the Conquistadors (5-8, 1-2). The Pointers are 4-11 and 0-3. Serra’s Alex Williams was two for three with an RBI, and Robbie Knight was two for three with two RBIs.

Madison 14, Morse 7--Frank Fontenot went four for four and scored three runs for Madison. Teammate Buzz Brown drove in four runs--two on a home run in the seventh--and scored three times. Warhawk pitcher Mike Jones drove in two runs on two-for-four hitting and improved to 2-0.

City Central League

Crawford 8, Hoover 1--Manny Gagliano broke a scoreless tie in the third with a three-run home run. The Colts’ Eric Turner was three for five with two RBIs.

Christian 13, Lincoln 10--Monte Smith hit his second home run of the year but it wasn’t enough for Lincoln.

San Diego 4, St. Augustine 3--Kian Sly scored two runs, drove in a run and collected two hits for host San Diego (6-5-1, 1-2). St. Augustine dropped to 6-8, 1-2.

Grossmont 3-A League

Helix 7, Monte Vista 6--Tory Winrow singled in the winning run in the seventh inning to lift the Highlanders at Monte Vista (8-4, 0-2). Robbie Ippolito pitched four innings before being relieved by winner Erik West (3-0) and collected three hits with a two-run home run in the fifth for Helix (10-3, 2-0). Ippolito is batting .604.
