IN BRIEF : Caduff, Wachter Win Giant Slaloms

Daniel Caduff edged fellow Swiss skier Peter Mueller in the men’s super giant slalom today, and Austrian Anita Wachter easily took the women’s event in the Lark Sports World International Grand Prix.

The two won the men’s and women’s downhill races in the same meet on Wednesday.

Caduff skied down the 8,415-foot Mt. Higashidate Super-G course in central Japan in 1 minute, 47.23 seconds, against Mueller’s 1:47.40. The course had a vertical drop of 2,145 feet and 54 gates. Austrian Willibald Zechner came in third in 1:49.51.

In the women’s race, over a 42-gate, 6,930-foot course, Wachter, the lone foreign entry, finished in 1 minute, 31.85 seconds, nearly six seconds ahead of Japan’s Kana Kawashima, who was timed in 1:37.67.
