IN BRIEF : ‘Bama’s Humphrey Looks to NFL
Bobby Humphrey, the leading career runner at Alabama, has decided to skip his final season and enter his name in either the July or the September National Football League supplemental draft, the Birmingham News reported today.
He had gained 3,240 career yards for a 5.6-yard average before reinjuring his left foot last season. The newspaper quoted sources as saying he wanted to return for the 1989 season if he could obtain enough insurance coverage to make it worthwhile in the event he suffered a career-ending injury. Although he was insured for $1 million through Lloyd’s of London, he wanted to purchase at least twice that amount.
