Racing at Santa Anita : Vive Wins Santa Lucia ‘Cap

Vive scored her third victory in four starts in the United States Saturday, rallying to win the $79,950 Santa Lucia Handicap at Santa Anita by one length before a crowd of 32,289.

Ridden by Laffit Pincay and carrying 117 pounds, Vive covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42 3/5 and paid $8.20, $3.20 and $2.80. The victory was worth $46,200.

The 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly, who raced in England last year, is trained by Ron McAnally.

Carita Tostada, ridden by Gary Stevens and carrying 118 pounds, and Lady Brunicardi, ridden by Fernando Valenzuela and carrying 115 pounds, finished in a dead heat for second place, 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Saros Brig.

Rosadora, the 9-10 favorite ridden by Chris McCarron, was fifth.
