A report from the secretary of state’s office in Sacramento shows that Merced County had the worst voter turnout record in the state last year. The report said only 57% of the county’s 107,000 residents who were eligible to vote were actually registered in 1988. Of the people registered to vote, only 59.5% cast ballots last year.
