Cal Lutheran to Again Play Host to District 3 Softball Tournament

Cal Lutheran will play host to the NAIA District 3 softball tournament for the third consecutive season May 5-6 by virtue of winning its conference title.

The Regals (25-14, 11-1) clinched their third consecutive Golden State Athletic Conference title Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Christ College.

Christ College and Azusa Pacific also will compete in the double-elimination tournament.

The champion will play host to a bi-district tournament--a three game series against the champion of District 7, which encompasses Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah--May 12-13.

The winner will advance to the NAIA championships in Midland, Mich., on May 18-20.

Steve Costley, the second-year baseball coach at Chaminade High, announced that he will leave his teaching and coaching positions at the West Hills school effective at the end of the academic year. Costley is 25-10-1 at Chaminade.

Pierce College will have a women’s basketball team beginning next season and will reinstate men’s basketball for the 1990-91 season, Athletic Director Marian McWilliams said.

Henry Campos, a senior second baseman at Cal Lutheran, was named District 3 Player of the Week for last week. Campos was 11 for 19 in a five-game span.

Eugene Humphrey has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Cal State Northridge. The 6-0 guard averaged 12.5 points a game for Cerritos College, the state junior college champion.
