Off-road racer Steve Centurioni, 40, of Pasadena was killed when his buggy crashed and burned during practice for Saturday’s Mint 400 off-road race. Peter Kujundzick, a passenger, managed to escape after the vehicle flipped several times and burst into flames in the desert northeast of Las Vegas.
Bureau of Land Management rangers and other drivers reported that Centurioni’s buggy going at an excessive speed when it went out of control and flipped. A 30-m.p.h. speed limit was in effect for practice.
