THE PREPS : Canyon Star Franke Decides to Attend SMU

Allison Franke, Canyon High School’s multitalented track and field athlete, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Southern Methodist University in the fall.

Franke, The Times’ Orange County girls’ track and field athlete of the year in 1988, won discus and triple jump titles at the Southern Section 4-A championships last year before capturing the discus title at the Southern Section Masters meet.

This year, her best throw of 158-11 ranks seventh in the nation.

Franke took trips to BYU, Washington, Georgia, Oregon before finally deciding on SMU, where she will major in communications.
