IN BRIEF : Tubbs Wins Decision Over Evans
Former World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Tony Tubbs of Santa Monica won a unanimous 10-round decision over Mike Evans of Chicago at the Redondo Beach Strand Thursday night.
Tubbs, who missed the weigh-in earlier Thursday but said he weighed 235 pounds, now has a 26-2 record with 15 knockouts. Evans, who weighed 244 pounds, fell to 16-3 with eight knockouts. Tubbs, 28, is ranked as the WBC’s seventh-leading heavyweight challenger while Evans is ranked 16th.
There were no knockdowns. Tubbs dominated the early and late rounds while Evans experienced most of his success in the middle rounds. Judge Kenny Davis scored the bout 97-93 for Tubbs; judge Raul Caiz scored it 97-94, and judge Vince Delgado scored it 96-94.
