An Arleta man has been sentenced to eight years in prison in the shooting death of a 16-year-old neighbor during an argument that stemmed from an ongoing dispute over a dog.

Trevor Griffith, 35, was sentenced Thursday in San Fernando Superior Court. He had pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the July 6 killing of Carlos Alvarez outside his home on Fillmore Street, Deputy Dist. Atty. John Asari said.

The two families had been involved in a dispute that began when one of Griffith’s children was bitten by the Alvarez dog, Asari said. The families sued each other after Griffith shot and killed the dog, Asari said.
