Cal Lutheran 6, Cal Baptist 5 (13 innings)--Cal Lutheran prevailed despite being outhit, 19-9, in a Golden State Athletic Conference game at Cal Lutheran.

Anthony Espitia drove in Jeff Brouelette with the winning run in the 13th inning and Chris Matkin (3-2) picked up the win in relief for Cal Lutheran (25-15, 13-7).

Matkin, a freshman form Hart High, allowed three hits, walked two and struck out four in 4 1/3 scoreless innings.

Trailing, 3-1, after 3 1/2 innings, Cal Lutheran scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.

Espitia doubled to lead off the inning and Daren Cornell followed with his third home to tie the score. After two walks and a fielder’s choice put runners on first and third with one out, Jeff Chalmers laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Lewis from third.

Valley 11, Bakersfield 3--Greg Struhl hit a home run and had four RBIs and Mike Caputi and Vladimir Pajcin each doubled for host Valley in a WSC game.

The Monarchs (26-9-1, 11-7) collected 11 hits off four Bakersfield pitchers. Freshman right-hander Wayne Schull (4-1) picked up the win in relief.

Mission 14, Compton 7--Robert Bradford had two doubles and three RBIs for Mission and freshman right-hander Chris Romo gave up six runs and nine hits to pick up his first victory in the Southern California Athletic Conference game at Compton.

Bradford had four hits and scored two runs to lead the Free Spirits (10-20, 8-10).

SOFTBALL

Cal Lutheran 10-7, Cal Baptist 0-5--DeeAndra Pilkington pitched a two-hitter in the first game and Kelly Ingram hit a bases-loaded single to key a four-run Regal rally in the seventh inning of the second game as Cal Lutheran swept a Golden State Athletic Conference doubleheader at Cal Baptist.

Katy Kjonegaard had three hits and two RBIs in the first game for Cal Lutheran (29-14, 15-1), which has won six in a row. In the second game, Brenda Lee hit a run-scoring single in the fourth. With two out in the seventh, Cal Lutheran rallied for four runs to overcome a 5-3 deficit.

MEN’S TENNIS

Pierce 9, Bakersfield 0--Sang Kim and Mark Nielsen, Pierce’s top two singles players, each posted straight-set victories without losing a game to lead the host Brahmas in their dual-match season finale.
