UC Irvine Women Reach Semifinals in Big West Tennis

UC Irvine defeated the University of the Pacific, 5-4, Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the Big West Conference women’s tennis championships at the Ojai Valley Racquet Club.
The Anteaters, seeded fourth in the tournament, will play No. 1 seeded San Diego State in the semifinals today.
Karin Bering, who was playing with an ankle injury, rallied to defeat Pacific’s Kimberly Uyema, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, in singles. Bering then teamed with Stacey Cadigan to defeat Uyema and Tisha Lee, 6-2, 6-1, in doubles.
Cal State Fullerton defeated Cal State Long Beach, 5-4, in the preliminary round, then lost to second-seeded UC Santa Barbara, 6-0, in the quarterfinals.
Against Long, Kelli Moore defeated Stacey Belkin, 6-2, 6-1, in singles. Moore and Caroline Sporer then defeated Paula Bennion and Anne Goebel, 6-1, 6-3, in doubles.
However, against Santa Barbara, the Titans won only one set.
Santa Barbara will face Nevada Las Vegas in the other semifinal match today.
The men’s competition begins play today.
