Payne, McClain Top Northwest Valley Track Prelims

Canoga Park sprinter Dalton Payne won two heats in the boys’ competition and Kennedy High hurdler Kathy McClain was a double winner in the girls’ competition Friday at the Northwest Valley Conference prelims at El Camino Real High.

Payne took the first heat of the 100 meters in 11.3 seconds and captured the 220 in 23.0 seconds. McClain won the 100-meter low hurdles in 17.0 and the 330-yard low hurdles in 50.3.

The meet determines competitors for Thursday’s conference finals at El Camino Real High.
