Six people were killed in less than eight hours of violence this weekend, including a 16-year-old boy who was apparently shot in Compton with a semiautomatic gun as he rode on the handlebars of a friend’s bicycle, authorities said Sunday.

Oscar Solorzano was killed about 10 p.m. Saturday night when a gunman wielding an assault weapon jumped out of his car and fired several rounds. Solorzano was hit in the chest and died a short time later at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, authorities said.

The teen-ager who was pedaling the bike dived to the ground and was not harmed in the attack, Detective John Swanson said.

The gunman and the driver of the car were believed to be gang members, but detectives had not determined whether Solorzano or his friend were gang members, Swanson said.

Two hours later in Los Angeles, a gunman inside a parked car shot and killed a 17-year-old boy at a park in Boyle Heights, police said. The victim was with several friends at the State Street Recreation Center when he was called over to a small car around midnight Sunday, Detective Robert Suter said.

Struck by a bullet fired from the car, the victim ran to the rear of a nearby house and collapsed. He died at the scene soon afterward. The killing may have been narcotics-related, detectives said. The victim’s name was withheld until relatives could be notified.

In Pomona, a 22-year-old man died after he was attacked inside his home in the 1000 block of West 3rd Street, police said. The victim “apparently was able to walk outside to the street, where he collapsed and died.” Pomona Police Lt. Chuck Heilman said.

Authorities, called to the scene about 3 a.m. Sunday, could not determine whether the man had been shot or stabbed. “Apparently he was bleeding profusely and had multiple injuries,” Heilman said.
