A San Diego police officer shot at a moving car in Southeast San Diego Sunday night as it headed toward her partner, police said.

Police were not sure Monday whether Officer Cathleen Sawyer hit either the car or its driver when she fired one round. The car sped from the scene in the 200 block of San Jacinto Drive and eluded police.

The shooting marked the fifth time in recent months that San Diego area police have fired their weapons after allegedly becoming targets of motorists.

The two officers were responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the area shortly after 10 p.m. when they came across the station wagon, police said.
