Canseco Goes 1 for 4 in First Class AA Game
Jose Canseco of the Oakland Athletics played right field for the Huntsville Stars Saturday night against the Jacksonville Expos in a Class AA Southern League game and got one hit in four official trips to the plate.
He struck out on a 3-and-2 pitch from Leon Danilo, a 22-year-old right-hander, in the first inning; walked on four pitches in the second; grounded to shortstop in the fourth; was called out on strikes in the sixth, and singled to right in the eighth as Huntsville won, 8-7.
The American League’s most valuable player was playing with his twin brother, Ozzie, for the first time since high school. The two are in Huntsville on 20-day rehabilitation assignments, both recovering from stress fractures in their left hands.
