Coach Mike Keenan of the Chicago Blackhawks thought that the Calgary Flames simply added insult to injury.

Keenan said that the Flames were not satisfied with a 5-2 victory Saturday night, taking a 2-1 lead in their Campbell Conference final series. He said the Flames instigated the fight that took place on the ice after the game.

“We had the last line change and went to the (Dennis) Savard line, and they made other (substitutions),” Keenan said. “Draw your own conclusions.”

The Flames countered with the Joel Otto line, so the 5-foot-10, 170-pound Savard and the 6-4, 220-pound Otto ended up holding each other off during the skirmishes.

Referee Bill McCreary, who replaced the injured Don Koharski late in the first period, handed out game misconducts to Calgary’s Jim Peplinski and Chicago’s Dave Manson after the game.

He also gave out a number of other penalties, including instigation, roughing and fighting to Brad McCrimmon, Otto and Tim Hunter of the Flames and Steve Larmer, Savard and Bob Murray of the Blackhawks.

The Flames regained the home-ice advantage they lost with their 4-2 setback in Calgary Thursday night. Chicago will play host to Game 4 Monday night before the series returns to Calgary Wednesday night.

Calgary had a five-on-three advantage when Theoren Fluery scored at 8:07 to give the Flames a 3-1 lead.

Hakan Loob’s tip-in of Gary Roberts’ shot at 11:46 of the third period clinched the victory, and Joe Mullen added an empty-net goal.
