A 20-year-old woman and her two children fled their burning Lomita Village home Monday after a fire broke out, causing about $90,000 in damage, authorities said.

One of the children, a 1-year-old girl, suffered second-degree burns on her forehead, cheek, leg and side of her body, said San Diego Fire Department Capt. Bob Landis.

The girl was taken to the Navy Hospital in Balboa Park for treatment.

The mother, Gayle Kenemore, and her 2 1/2-year-old son escaped injury, Landis said.

About 20 firefighters responded to the fire in the 300 block of Sunnyside Avenue just after 8 a.m. and found smoke and flames coming from the living room and bedroom windows, Landis said.

Kenemore was awakened by her son, who ran into her bedroom and alerted her of the fire, Landis said.

Kenemore ran into another bedroom and scooped up her 1-year-old daughter before all three fled the burning house, Landis said.

Fire officials believe that the fire originated in one of the children’s bedrooms, Landis said.
