Boxer Julio Cesar Chavez and promoter Don King are being sued for $1.2 million in a breach of contract lawsuit filed by a Los Angeles promoter over Saturday’s fight against Roger Mayweather.

Rogelio Robles, president of Azteca Promotions Inc., announced the filing of the complaint on Monday. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court, seeks $50,000 Robles claims he gave to Chavez after signing him to an exclusive contract to fight Mayweather for the World Boxing Council junior welterweight championship. Mayweather is the WBC super lightweight champion.

Robles alleges that he signed a contract with Chavez on Nov. 20, 1988, and advanced Chavez and Mayweather money to show his good faith. Then in December, 1988, Robles claims, he was notified that King also signed Chavez to fight Mayweather.

Robles said he would not attempt to stop the championship bout at the Forum in Inglewood, but would seek to attach the $750,000 purse to be awarded to Chavez, who lives in Mexico.
