Ramona 7, Oceanside 5--Oceanside’s Sibian Fiumano hit his sixth home run in the third inning but host Ramona improved to 12-12, 5-6. Matt Dart went four for four for Oceanside.

Escondido 8, San Marcos 1--Robert Erp struck out 13 for the ninth-ranked Cougars at San Marcos (6-15, 5-6). Mike Garcia went three for four with two RBIs for Escondido (17-5, 9-2).

Rancho Buena Vista 9, El Camino 3--Robert McLeod scored three times and hit a grand slam for RBV (13-10, 6-5). Donovan Crocker (6-5) picked up the victory. The victory moved RBV into a tie for third with San Pasqual.

Metro Conference

Castle Park 5, Montgomery 1--Joe Carillo’s three-run homer in the sixth inning broke open a 2-1 game, to break a three-game losing streak for seventh-ranked Castle Park (22-5-1, 8-3). Jackie Sosa added a solo homer for the Trojans and sophomore Benji Gil (7-0) picked up the victory. Castle Park and Mar Vista are tied and play Thursday for first.

Hilltop 8, Mar Vista 1--David Chapman and Jeff Luce hit two-RBI singles to pace Hilltop’s five-run first. Gus Chavarin’s three-run homer completed the scoring for the Lancers (8-13, 5-6). Jose Silva struck out 10 in the victory. Mar Vista dropped to 10-11-1, 8-3.

Marian 5, Chula Vista 1--Leo Ortiz threw just 77 pitches in tossing a two-hitter for Marian (8-13, 5-6). Alex Guevera paced the Crusaders by going three for three with a run scored, while Jeff Hays’ had a two-run double in the third inning.

Sweetwater 2, Bonita Vista 1--Larry Meza pitched a three-hitter and struck out four and Walter Magallon went two for with two RBI for Sweetwater (11-11, 6-5).

Coronado 7, Southwest 1--Rich Bledsoe threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and helped his own cause with a run-scoring single for Coronado (10-10, 5-6).

Palomar League

Mt. Carmel 8, Orange Glen 1--John Tjcek hit for the cycle and improved his batting average to .506 against Orange Glen (10-14, 3-6). Byron Klemaske (12-1) pitched a five-hitter. Top-ranked Mt. Carmel improved to 21-2, 10-1. Tjcek doubled in the first, singled in the second, tripled in the fourth and homered in the sixth. Teammate Ed Cornblum doubled three times and had three RBIs.

Poway 6, San Dieguito 4--Matt Schwenke hit two two-run homers for Poway (9-12, 4-6). Danny Monreal, Brian Thistle and Tony Sanchez had two hits each for San Dieguito (10-11, 2-7).

Vista 1, Torrey Pines 0--John Land tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out 10 as Vista (15-5-1, 7-3) clinched a tie for second place. Brandon Hawkins knocked in the game’s only run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth which scored Ryan Tamburino who had doubled. John Lynch struck out four and pitched a four-hitter for Torrey Pines (10-11-1).

Softball

Metro Conference

Hilltop 11, Mar Vista 0--Erica Thomas was four for four, drove in four runs and scored a run to lead the Lancers (11-0, 19-4), winners of three consecutive league championships. Martha Blanco was the winning pitcher. She has yet to give up a run in league play.

Castle Park 3, Montgomery 2--Dawn Wood won her 58th career game to tie the San Diego Section record Santana’s Cheryl Forehand established from 1978-81. Wood (14-6) broke the Section career strikeout record last Thursday. Her 13 against Montgomery extended her career strikeouts to 723, with 203 for the season. For Montgomery (5-11, 2-9), Michelle Bridges went three for four, scored twice and had one RBI.

Avocado League

San Pasqual 2, Carlsbad 1--Trilby Carson (7-2) pitched a three-hitter and struck out six for San Pasqual (15-7, 7-4). Teammate Sheila Teach was two for three, scored once and drove in a run.
