A car crashed into the main gate of the Camp David presidential retreat, seriously injuring the driver, authorities said today.
There were no guests at the retreat in the Catoctin Mountains, and President Bush was in Washington at the time of the incident late Wednesday night.
White House spokesman B. J. Cooper said the gate was heavily reinforced and was not damaged. "We don't have any motive at this stage," he said. "There's no indication that this is a plot." The driver, Mary Louise Tasler, 48, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
