SportScope : High School Alumni to Meet in Benefit Football Game

An alumni football game to benefit North and West high schools of Torrance is scheduled Saturday night at 7 at North High School, 3620 W. 182nd St. Admission is $5. Players who graduated in 1978 or before compete in the first half and those who graduated in the past 10 years play the second half. Proceeds will be split by the two schools. This is the first time the game has been played at North, which leads the biannual series, 2-0.

Sign-ups for North Redondo Beach Region 17 of the American Youth Soccer Organization are scheduled Saturday in the community room near Nordstrom at the South Bay Galleria. For more information call 542-3555. Sign-ups for South Redondo Beach Region 34 are slated for the first two Saturdays in June at the South High School gymnasium in Torrance. For more information call 540-0438. The cost is $40 per athlete and a birth certificate is required of new players. A discount for families with more than one participant is offered. Play begins in September.

The Sacramento Senators of the Western Soccer League play back-to-back road games this week against first-place San Diego and the second-place Heat of Los Angeles in South Division play. The Heat tumbled out of a first place last weekend by losing to Portland, 1-0. Game time for Saturday night’s game between the Heat and Sacramento is 7:30 at West High in Torrance.

The Southern California Natural Body Building Championships are scheduled June 3 at the Aviation Center. For more information call 212-7234.

Applications for the Laura Stamm power skating clinic at Bay Harbor Olympic Ice Arena in Harbor City are being accepted. The cost is $90 per person. The event is slated July 14-16. Stamm has worked with professional hockey teams and is the author of three books on power skating.
