Pete Rose becomes eligible for induction into baseball’s Hall of Fame in 1992, but he may not get the 75% of the vote required if it is determined he bet on games involving the Cincinnti Reds, according to a survey taken by the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post.

The Post reported that it contacted 68 Hall of Fame voters from the Baseball Writers Assn. of America, the official balloting body. If Rose is suspended for life for betting on the Reds, only 54.4% of those responding said they would still vote for Rose.

And only 32% said they would vote for induction if it is determined Rose bet against the Reds.

A sizable group, 16.2% of those contact, declined comment.

The 68 surveyed by the Post represent only about 15% of the total number who will vote.
