A third teen-ager was sentenced Wednesday to a maximum of 365 days at the county’s juvenile camp for his part in a series of Escondido school fires and vandalism of a church.

The youth, who recently turned 18, changed his plea to guilty in an arson that caused $55,000 damage to an Escondido High School outbuilding March 10 and to vandalism of an Escondido Roman Catholic church in mid-February. He was not charged in three school fires set March 18 that caused about $1.2-million damage.

Probation staff had recommended that the youth be sent to a California Youth Authority prison, where he could have been held until his 21st birthday.
