Californians Win in Bridge Playoff
Six Californians were among the winners at the American Contract Bridge League playoff held recently in Memphis, Tenn., entitling them to represent the United States in the 1989 world championship.
Peter Pender of San Francisco, Hugh Ross of Oakland, Mike Lawrence and Kit Woolsey of Kensington, Chip Martel of Davis and Lew Stansby of Castro Valley won the final match. In the women’s division, a team of Americans beat the all-Canadian women’s team.
Both teams will play for the U.S. in the championships at Perth, Australia, in September.
